A little bit of Nostalgia + O.M.O now online !
As you are aware, I am a (proud) bandra girl. I was born and brought up in this green and peaceful suburb of Mumbai city (though I still call it Bombay all the time) and my life revolved around this area – bustling with it’s stores and cafes. While it wasn’t as happening as it is today, Bandra still had some fabulous stuff to offer – some quaint stores, a ‘Goa-esque’ feel and a lot of quirky and fun fashion options. I remember one particular store that I would save up for and visit. If you remember O.M.O was a colourful and bright store above the Nalini Yasmin salon around linking road. It was my first interaction to #slow & #sustainablefashion.
I would save up my pocket money and wait for my mom’s next hair appointment to go check out the fabulously designed, almost one of a kind designs that this store had to offer. Bright colours, a Baga beach vibe, lots of tassels and pom pos (even when they were not as popular as they are today) – O.M.O to me was a fashion haven that gave me respite fro the usual ‘linking road’ stores and their regular garments. In a time when a shopping mall was non existent, shops like O.M.O (On My Own) were a favourite for a lot of the ‘Bandra’ and even ‘ Sobo’ Fashionistas. I clearly remember those woven chappals that everybody was crazy about and those big bags with pom poms that I carried to college or tuitions my favourites from the store.
As time flew by and I trotted around the globe and ultimately moved to SoBo, it was absolutely delightful to come across O.M.O online !!! CAN YOU IMAGINE I COULD NOW SHOP ONLINE + NOT HAVE TO ’SAVE UP’ haha ! I was ecstatic and couldn’t help myself. I could finally shop one of my favourite brands online ! In a world of Zara & H&M, O.M.O offers the feeling of #madewithlove. The clothes are designed in-house and made thoughtfully. The accessories made by their in house team or some fabulous (women) designers from across India, O.M.O has something special for each of us. My first purchase was a fabulous ‘kaftan’ style top in bright hues and a gorgeous blue brocade necklace that have both fetched me numerous compliments. (seen above)
Tucked away in a quiet by lane of Bandra (yes they relocated and I like this one better !) the O.M.O store is a MUST Visit if in Mumbai. I can’t wait to share my experience and picks from the store and even share how to style the fabulous pieces right ! Till then, feel free to check out the website and shop some unique and handmade designs. (Yes, they also ship internationally).
What to expect :
They offer a wide range of exclusive, organic, sustainable fashion for Men, Women and Children and once in a while they stock some fabulous home decor and skin care products that you will LOVE.
