Hair Stories | The Cut Collective
Ok so let’s be honest, every 4-6 months hair need to be trimmed and in my case it’s every 3-4 months because I tend to have split ends and limp hair by end of month 3. Usually people stick to a single stylist for all their hair needs but I tend to have special people for color, cut, treatments etc.
While my goto person for anything hair related is usually Shefali Shetty at Bblunt (Khar), these days with her travel and shoot schedule it is impossible to get hold of her. The same goes with Kanta at Kromakay – I have tried four times to get an appointment and missed the dates. Maybe I don’t know the right people who can help me get an appointment with her I guess.
Anyways, I was in desperate need of a haircut and style revamp. Rains make my hair limp and add a weird type of frizz making them unmanageable and horrible ! Shefali and Kanta were both unavailable and I had some time before the weekend to sort the situation out.
I’ve driven past The Cut Collective a gazillion times on Peddar Road and when a friend suggested I try them out I decided to take the plunge.
Getting an appointment was fairly easy – got one with Senior Stylist Chon. When I went in today Chon was waiting for me with a smile and the salon was empty which should have meant I would have all attention to myself. I love a quiet and peaceful salon but what I love more is friendly and warm staff. Chon was fabulous. She studied my miserable hair out and made a few polite suggestions on what treatments I can get and also was quick to grasp what I had in mind with regards to my haircut.
I wish I could say that about the lady behind the reception, I am not sure if she was the manager or just the lady handling the appointments but she was curt and really really really pushy with the treatment suggestions. To the extent that it made me uncomfortable. I asked for a quick hair spa to be added to my wash and she was so convinced that I needed some fancy hair treatment that would take upto an hour, last me just 3 weeks and would cost me almost Rs 4,000. When I politely suggested I need something quick, short, sweet and repeatable (because the blow dry gets to you for sure) Chon stepped in and we went in with the L’oreal Hair Spa added to my backwash. Of course counter lady decided to push again, came up and spoke to me (while I was getting hair washed and trying to enjoy my head massage) about how I am missing out by not trying that expensive treatment and how at the very least I need a double dose of the spa I was getting done finally (was she a stylist I did not know of ?? ). I am all for experimenting and spending good money on my mane. However it has to be my decision and cannot be pushed down once the treatment has already started.
Chon was great, quick, patient and really good. I am very happy with my haircut but I wonder if I would go back to The Cut Collective again because of the whole feel and experience. I had to ask for water and coffee (in an empty salon) and when I requested to check if they had a wire to charge (my not so cool ) Pixel, Aunty said no sorry we all use only I phone because apparently thats the best camera and they all need to take pictures of their clients. I very very rarely whine about customer service, but then again I very very rarely encounter people like the counter lady … As I was leaving she began pushing their skincare services… I literally ran and waited outside in the sun for the car…
Sharing images from my fabulous haircut for you to see ! Excuse the quality as they were shot on Google Pixel and not Iphone 🙂 also have not edited them in any way ( I was so irritated that I decided not to do anything to my poor Pixel photos). I would go back for Chon on Counter Aunty’s weekly off day…
Rating for The Cut Collective –
Haircut – 4/5
Blow Dry – 3.5/5
Ambience – 3.5/5
Service by Stylist – 4.5/5
Service by Aunty at reception – 1/5 (catty + pushy combination ughhh)
Value For Money – Priced at Rs 1650 inclusive of taxes it was one of the better priced haircuts i’ve ever had so I would say 4.5/5 Hair spa would have cost Rs 600 ended up costing double thanks to pushy aunty.
Overall – 2/5 because of aunty (I am now scared to go back ‘coz she will read this and hate me – but it’s truuuu)
They do offer valet parking and I would say if you do go please ask for Chon she is great !
I paid in full for my hair cut and spa and this is not a sponsored post.
