7 Healthy Things To Start Your Day With | 2018 Diary
Like every year, 2018 started off on a promising note. There was this urge to get fitter than I was last year and I really wanted to stick to this one resolution. I want to try to live a healthy life and I have never been one to diet, in fact, the foodie that I am I struggle to keep track of those calories that creep into my daily routine. So for the past 2 months, I have been trying to stick to a few things that have helped me be healthier so far. I am sharing things that I think should be a part of everybody’s health routine and they cost next to nothing at all…
Start your day with water : If you read any books by Gwyneth Paltrow, you will know the one easy thing to pick from it is stay hydrated. So simply just wake up and keep a glass of H2O next to your bedside and drink up. When you sleep your body is working overtime to heal and repair and the cells need to stock up on hydration as a result of that. So when you have that glass of water, it helps your cells get the water they need to wake up. Don’t take my word for it – when you drink that glass of water you will really feel your body wake up. Also don’t forget to have at least 3 liters of water a day. It can be in form of green tea/ water etc.
Lemon Water is good for you – I know, you just had that glass of water but this one helps to push your body into the alkaline state. Lemon when in the system turns alkaline. Sip a cup of warm lemon water to help speed up the cleansing in the body. Those of you who struggle with the loo will automatically see the benefit here. Say no to areated / sugar drinks this year.
Start off on a tutti frutti note – If you ever read any ayurvedic books, lining your stomach before you reach for that cup of coffee is key. Followers of the Keto diet would agree as well with this rule. So post that lemon water have a bowl of fruit. My friends at Qi Fitness suggest that you stick to 1 fruit and eat it before 11 30 am. I usually have a melon of some sort as apple is my mid day snack on most days as it’s so easy to carry around and not so messy.
Stretch – We are so used to living our lives in front of the computer, in the car, sitting in on meetings that we often suffer from back aches. When you wake up stretch. Extend your arms towards the ceiling and try to stretch as much. There are a bunch of Yoga asanas that can be tried out and I will try to share those out or maybe get a Yoga expert to help us with those. If you are familiar with the Surya Namaskar routine – I suggest 10 rounds each morning to start with, will be great for the body.
If you get a chance to get up and walk around at work – good idea. Every hour take a 5 min break to walk and stretch.
Walking does wonders – 30 minutes a day. That is all you need to start with and you will see the difference. If you have a park around the house, I suggest you walk in the park but if not walk on the treadmill or even in the passage of your home ! If you walk in the morning then your workout for the day is done and you rarely will miss a workout… Walk as much as you can !
Never skip breakfast – This for me is one thing I learnt from Mr. K, I would never ever have breakfast before I got married and now that I read more and more about it, I am glad I have started eating something in the morning. Post your water + fruit + coffee routine do sit and have something light but filling. Overnight oats, daliya, upma, poha etc are great options. Go easy on the bready stuff but if you like your sandwich then try to look for a whole wheat/ multigrain/gluten free option.
Use a deodorant – I know it isn’t exactly a ‘health tip’ but since we are talking about morning routine and since I have a very strong opinion about it I wanted to squeeze this in here. When you shower use a talcum powder + a deo stick in the morning. The market is flooded with options and while I have a few favourites, I think just using one is key. Indians are known for their BO issues and I think it is one of the most basic things to do where hygiene is concerned.
I will share lots of stuff that I am trying to incorporate into my routine this 2018, however just starting off with the above will get you results. You will feel energized, more relaxed, more confident and your skin too will love you !
These are a few Books by Gwyneth Paltrow that I have read and recommend you do too ! They have helped incorporate small, easy healthy habits into my life.
