Keto Check In
It’s been about 10 days since I started… so I thought it is only fair to share my experience so far. I’ve been good on most days. Sometimes I feel a little stressed because what if it backfires and I gain weight ? It hasn’t happened yet but still…
My staff obviously thinks I have lost the plot because about 11 days ago I would monitor the olive oil and ghee usage and measure them in tea spoons and now I am demanding I add coconut oil to my coffee… However I have found a middle ground that seems to be working for me and helps me balance out my calorie related stress levels. I skip the suggested intake of bullet proof coffee, I avoid extra and unnecessary calories and I focus on avoiding carbs as much as I can. By carbs I mean at a Macro level. Did you know almost everything we eat are made up of some percentage of carbs ? I use Keto Diet Tracker, an app I downloaded on day 1 that guides me through what I am eating and the break up of the food content.
Week 1 I lost 1.9 Kgs. I don’t know if it was water weight, I consumed about 3-4 lts water daily just to make sure I was keeping myself hydrated. I do tend to retain more water than I need to (BP levels are all fine…) but maybe thats the weight I lost a bit of…who knows.
Week 2: So I have not had Keto flu symptoms. I was worried about this. However what did happen was it poured in Mumbai and the weather turned a little weird and that led to a full blown viral and cold attack for me. So I did get the flu but of a normal kind. Now this happened on day 8 of my diet and I was so sick and down that I decided to indulge a little this weekend. Mind you by indulge I mean – I ate a few ‘gluten free’ carbs and a few spoons of that delicious date cake at a new Mumbai restaurant last night. On day 8 I had lost a total of 2.5 kgs which is not bad considering I was eating a good amount of food and was never hungry… However this morning post my 2 days of incorporating ‘carbs’ and ‘dessert’ I am back to a net of 1.9 kgs down. Which if you ask me is not bad at all considering this is only based on food intake and not any workout. I am travelling in 3 days so I really do want to stick to the original and suggested plan the next 3 days. Given that cheese is allowed and so is meat, I am sure I will be able to stick to my Keto plan a lot even while I am travelling.
What I love about Keto so far is that it is a very doable plan. It’s also made me more aware of what I am eating and consuming. I now think before I eat and check on my app. Which is a good thing.
Verdict : I can’t say I have been following it a 100%, perhaps a 75% is more like it. However I do feel more energy (barring this weekend when I fell sick) and I fit into a pair of amazing pants I was dying to wear but was unable to earlier so I know I have lost about an inch or more… That is enough to keep me motivated.
Back to Keto this morning. Had a slice of paneer for breakfast. I am incorporating soup in my diet, chicken soup for most of the week because of my throat but staying clear from root veggies..
Can’t wait to check in at the end of the week to share my progress. Fingers crossed that I can maintain this plan even while I am travelling !
