Love Sustainable | Shop on Tamasq
‘Any outfit comprises of the fabric, the cut and a story’
I’m always on the look out for brands and designers who create not only trendy clothes but also use good fabric and employ fair trade & sustainable means to create the outfits I wear. You know how I love a touch of ‘traditional’ in my outfits. Be it the fabric, the print or the cut, any outfit that has a bit of tradition, a story, I love more than anything. My love for ‘sustainable’ fashion lead me to the ‘Tamasq’ website recently.
Derived from the sanskrit word for darkness ‘Tamas’, the brand name Tamasq implies that they are lifting the darkness and are working to revive traditional fabrics, methods and sustainable fashion. The designs are timeless, classic, inspired by the natural elements around us and really easy to style. When you browse their lookbook, you will realise that their designs are like no other that you may have seen out there. They exude sophistication and make one feel special.
The brand works with local communities and craftsman to create beautiful and made to measure contemporary outfits that are made from traditional fabric. In their own way they are revolutionising the way we shop online. Made to measure is a concept all Indians love and now to be able to have an online store that helps with that is great ! Hand woven and organic fabrics, block printed by hand as well as hand dyed, they’re working towards rejuvenating the forgotten Indian textiles by making them more relevant and wearable. I will soon be sharing about their various collections and the stories behind them. I wore one of their dresses to Lakme Fashion Week ‘AW17 and everybody asked me about it…they truly stand out !
I think after my first purchase off the website, I was so impressed by the fabulous quality, fit & finish – I went a little overboard and shopped a number of pieces. I loved that the website categories are uniquely labeled to make sure you don’t waste any time and get exactly what you’re looking for. The dresses have been categorised as per fit – asymmetrical, circular, fit & flare, flared, knee length, long, midi or skater. The jackets, tops and tunics have been similarly sorted out to make for easy navigation. I have a few favourites that I can’t wait to share with you – because I’ve styled them in a really fun way but until then I suggest you explore the website and check the fabulous designs out for yourself !
What particularly appealed to me was that the outfits can be styled so easily and work both for a contemporary or traditional look. Take this top for example. It can be styled with a pair of jeans or even like I have styled them with a pair of contrasting bright dhoti pants for a pooja.
Don’t forget to pick the Custom Fit option to make sure they fit you just right !!
