Starting off with Keto…
I wonder if Keto diet is a fad diet…
I have so many friends and cousins swear by this one that I was very very curious to learn more and give it a shot. So basically the way it works is (in laymen terms) –
You cut out carbs (bread, pastas, rice, potato, sugar) + eat moderate protein + pump in some extra fat (butter, avocado, olive oil, cheese).
The body then goes into ketosis in a few days because it usually thrives on energy derived from carbohydrates but since there are no more carbs for it to burn, it shifts focus to the fat reserves. This in turn leads to fat burn.
This is a very very simple explanation of what the Keto diet is and how it works. Something I discussed with my mom yesterday, as I saw her eyes grow bigger when I made myself a cup of bullet proof coffee. I have been reading up about the diet for over a few weeks and I wanted to try it out for about 2 weeks (prior to my holiday) and so I gave it shot. I am on day 3 and I plan to share my experience with all of you. Of course I will be in a better position to comment on how effective it really is at the end of the 2 weeks but perhaps I can motivate some of you to try the Keto diet out with me no ?
P.S. Don’t forget your vitamin supplements to make sure your vitamin levels, salts etc stay at the right levels. Also don’t forget to drink lots of water. They say 1 ounce for every pound of body weight – about 3-4 lts for you based on your weight.
Look out for recipes and of course my comments on how I feel each day/ if there is a change in how I feel and weigh… my mom of course is very nervous because that much fat can only mean ‘weight gain’ no ?
There are some AMAZING websites and blogs out there, it can get a little overwhelming at first. I plan to make it easier by sharing the ones that have worked for me and I will be happy to share references and link them along the way !
